2 LinkedIn Post Frameworks for Freelance Writers in 2024

LinkedIn recently hosted a webinar outlining two specific frameworks for posts that are designed to grow and engage your audience on the platform in 2024. Instead of worrying about the optimal LinkedIn post size or the best times to post, focus on creating content that helps your ideal audience in very specific ways.

Here’s a breakdown of what to include in each post style according to LinkedIn’s team.

What type of audience is LinkedIn geared to?

Before diving into the two frameworks, the LinkedIn folks stressed what audiences are on LinkedIn and why. Not everyone may be on the network to search for job postings, but they are there for some type of professional purpose. LinkedIn audiences are attracted to posts that do one of two things:

  • Show them how to work more effectively and develop more satisfying careers.

  • Help them understand their industry or an industry trend.

Anytime you craft a LinkedIn post, test it to see if it hits one of those two measures, otherwise consider tweaking it using one of the frameworks recommended by LinkedIn.

How to post on LinkedIn

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you post on LinkedIn. Instead, use these two frameworks to create engaging content on a regular basis.

LinkedIn Framework #1

The first framework for LinkedIn posts addresses helping people to do their jobs better or develop more satisfying careers.

Cycle through these four prompts to cover the topics you want to talk about.

LinkedIn Post Framework 1

If you’re a freelance writing looking for clients on LinkedIn, use these prompts with your target client in mind, rather than other freelancers. Talk about your onboarding process, research and writing process, or sourcing best practices. That way you’re demonstrating your expertise and showing clients what it’s like to work with you (and help them do their jobs better).

Not sure who your LinkedIn audience should be? I recommend looking at each client’s job title over the last year. Calculate the percentage of similar job titles and pick the top two as your ideal LinkedIn follower.

LinkedIn Framework #2

LinkedIn also recommends sharing your knowledge of a particular industry and current trends. Create posts using these three writing prompts.

Freelance writers can utilize these posts in a couple of different ways. First, you can talk about any specific industries you cover, like personal finance, health and wellness, SaaS, or anything else. It shows prospective clients that you’re an expert in your field and may even give them content ideas they want to cover (and assign).

Another way to incorporate this framework into your LinkedIn posting schedule is to talk about the type of writing projects you work on, like sales copy, white papers, optimized blog posts, or e-books. Chances are, your target client may not be an expert on these deliverables. Talk about why the type of content you create is valuable to your client’s target audience. Link to studies on content marketing trends. Again, the idea is to simultaneously help your audience while also demonstrating your expertise.
